@Research0digo hear, hear.

supervanscott September 22, 2011 at 12:24 am

…meant “plague” lol. The Black Plaque was pretty horrific too.

supervanscott September 22, 2011 at 12:40 am

@thesepipesRclean There are probably many medical causes for it. Every disease in existence went through a period when its causes were not fully understood. The Black Plaque was not understood in its day. I suppose that means the Black Plaque was not real. Tell that to the millions who died. Bipolar disorder is not real? Tell that to the millions who have taken their own lives due to the many symptoms, most of which have indeed been agreed upon by most health professionals.

Such a beautiful family! I was so happy when Maurice finally had his baby boy. I wish them all the best.

There’s a small and excellent online depression support group called Depression Hangout that is always open to anyone who is struggling with mental health problems (not just depression). It’s run in its own chaotic way by its members who meet regularly in the chat room and it’s a great place to seek and provide help and support, make new friends and even just have a laugh. (We all need that too!) To join just go to depressionhangout-dot-blogspot-dot-com.

Its amazing that Maurice whom plays Sonny does as well as he does! Just looking at him, u’d never know! I am truly disappointed that the s/l that Sonny is also Bi polar wasn’t well received. Thank goodness Emily was there for Sonny! Good to see Natalia in this.

i’ve known people inside and outside of work with this disorder. they are tough to be around and get angry at the drop of a pen. hate it.

@MsDezzyzRayz I suffer from bipolar and yes it is underfunded and overlooked. Mental illness still has that stigma about it, people just think you are too lazy or weak.

mtape123 September 22, 2011 at 4:17 am

People who develop these mental illnesses actually have a different understanding of reality that others are too afraid to unconsciously face; this is why a label is formed. I can see it in every little impulse, twitch, etc. in their bodies. This is part of the reason I don’t want to continue with my psychology degree. I see the truth beyond it.

@lacongerasambera re Maurice Benard’s bipolar disease, please educate yourself.

There are so many chemical imbalances in the brain. As the body gets ill, the brain does too.

MsDezzyzRayz September 22, 2011 at 5:39 am

Your incredible. Thank You. People that are not effected by mental illness have NO idea how it effects the lives of the ones around them. It will trickle down and actually hurt the family much more when the illness is not addressed. So many would just simply run away and ignore it but he is helping so many by Being Honest. Mental illness is no different than a physical illness in that it is real and it requires addressing and it requires treatment. So Under funded and under recognized.

2degucitas September 22, 2011 at 5:49 am

@pandabead I think you meant to say ” the more harder it is to treat..”, right? Yeah, it’s true, the longer you go without treatment the harder it is to topple the giant.

CESMentalHealth September 22, 2011 at 6:09 am

It’s a loaded question to ask “How do you reconcile what you’ve been through (your illness) with your belief in God?” E.g., in Process Theism, God doesn’t cause someone to have mental illness. (I.e., God is not omnipotent).

lacongerasambera September 22, 2011 at 6:48 am

yeah! I think its cognitve, theres no pill to cure a trauma in someones life I say.
There is no tylenol when your soul and spirt are aching .

Hot either way though!

blah0206 September 22, 2011 at 8:40 am

MrMichny08 September 22, 2011 at 9:33 am

Luckyndsam91707 September 22, 2011 at 10:09 am

I love Maurice and to hear him talk about his disorder is so touching!!<3

pandabead September 22, 2011 at 10:18 am

The longer a person does not get treated with bipolar the more likely it is to treat and stabilze. My husband became psychotic and he has had a very hard time since then becoming stable. He is a professional and has a hard time.
