Schizoid personality disorder – Individuals with this disorder may have particular difficulty expressing anger, which contributes to the impression that they lack emotion. – Other Personality Disorders (especially Schizotypal, Paranoid, and Avoidant) often co-occur with this disorder. – People with the disorder show a flattened or restricted range of emotions, and can appear indifferent to what’s going on around them. However, their inner life can be rife with a deep emotional need, sensitivity and confusion about the world around them. – web sources: www.mentalhealth.com www.mayoclinic.com my.clevelandclinic.org www.minddisorders.com psychcentral.com www.pipeline.com www.psychologytoday.com www.4degreez.com www.ccspublishing.com

I do not believe in a lot of this psychiatry/DSM bullshit of calling personality traits diseases. But, there are discernible characteristics that closely match the descriptions of these so called disorders..However, they do cause a lot of pain, I love my wife dearly. I’ve tried 10 years to get into her heart and to open her heart to me. I am very lonely, and so sad for her because I want her to know what it feels like to be fully human. To experience, wonder, excitement, empathy, dreams.
@BlazeCyndaquil I think it’s about caring about other people around you.And it doesn’t matter if you are in a group or solo.Something happened to me few days ago and your comment sprang up to my mind. I was sitting after hours of hiking and waiting for the bus by a mountain hut and bad weather started to form. The bench was beneath the roof and sheltered from the rain. And some guy with his company sat beside me.. and they just pushed me out. It was like I was alone there and so I didn’t matter
@blakscull You can also say that just randomly making up disorders to explain the actions of people who don’t act like everybody else is just making up disorders. Clearly, being a personality, disorder, the disorder is the kind of person that they are, so you would be saying that the person isn’t right in who they are. When people talk about personality disorders in the brain, I think of it just how someone developed their personality differently based on parts of the brain, not an error in code
@BlazeCyndaquil Because its not “normal” with the standards of society, i know what you are saying. And actually, its said that thinking that theres nothing wrong with it, is another symptom.
@MyFreedomYourPrice I know what you mean my good sir.
@rooflee Yeah, I’ve read that an extremely flat affect can “cancel out” other effect of SPD. But even for me, art is easier to accomplish.
@ryukXsayu27 You also need talent and to get pleasure from performing/persuing the art form.
@EmilyRose2010x I know the feeling
May I suggest night receptionist in a hotel?
So, looking at all the symptoms and such, I have to ask, what is so bad about it? Just because a person almost never wants to be around people doesn’t mean that it is bad. Or having thoughts that don’t agree with society? Who said there was something wrong with that?
Which is what I am by the way… You should do a search on covert type… It is often misdiagnosed as ADHD because it has a lot of similar signs but typically more severe but with the added hell of being extremely sensitive
Although I think the info you are trying to relay is good…. it isn’t 100 percent accurate. There is covert type which constantly try to please people.still have a lot of the inner feelings and extreme social anxiety… But they are impulsed to say things to get positive responses and it looks like lot like avoidant but its not
Does anyone know of any good jobs for schizoids? I’m intelligent and i have good qualifications but I’m finding it really hard to find work because I refuse to take a job that involves working with people.
my father has some of those traits..unfortunately he’s getting alot worse to the point where just having a conversation is impossible now….I look for answers whereever I can find some to help us cope with his problems…
@combatdstar lol I never get “bored” though so..
@MyFreedomYourPrice
all germans are schizoids, lol. they don’t have feelings and they just work, arbeit mach frei they said.
@ryukXsayu27 Schizoids with no distractions can be entirely focused on one subject which possibly could allow them to stay on problems for a long time. Some historians believe Albert Einstein possibly had Asperger Syndrome, a similar psychological condition (due to the fact he had difficulty in social relationships), allowing him to have intense thoughts while bored at the patent office working on his theory of relativity
I don’t get the whole “creative” schizoid idea. As an EXTREMELY flat affect schizoid, I can’t see why a person with SPD, who would apparently lack emotion or hobbies or ambition, would be creative or bother making art. Could somebody help me out here?
@sillypuppy2 I display traits of both… I think at least. I have a lot of trouble expressing joy and anger, but I usually cover that up by being funny or nice.
It’s confusing for me, especially when it comes to relationships. It’s like being infatuated by the idea of having one, but not seeing it as something you can possibly do. It’s very confusing for the other person as well. They can think it’s their fault that you’re cutting yourself off from them. Or they think you’re crazy…
@XxGreenDayzxX You’re avoidant, not schizoid.
I have this. It’s not fun at all.
Its à skill Not an disorder!
Sounds like me lol..I wouldn’t call it a disorder however…
I don’t see how someone could have avoidant and schizoid personality disorder at the same time. Can someone please tell me what these people are like.
And that is why I sort of don’t like a diagnose but that we keep that in the coach drawers. And that we just keep helping them to move in the right direction. A diagnose can be like an excuse. It might be bad if all you get is the diagnose and no more help to self help. A diagnose might be good if that person is surrunded by persons who wont change behaviour unless faced with an official diagnose. But in general I don’t like them.
nope.
But I do think that its not on and off with psychology and that you move along axis and develop or grow into certain behaviour or is pushed into certain behaviour over time. A diagnose, THAT, is on and off. IF, someone get a diagnose THEN what and what about those that don’t get one. And what about those that suffer 10% from everything. They will not be understod because their ways are not clear.
And the other part is ordinary people need to learn this stuff would help w understanding
