Question by Inday: “To quit smoking” – Is this in your new year’s resolutions? Do you honestly believe you can do it?

It’s not my new year’s resolution but if anyone is trying to quit I work at a health care clinic and we’ve been giving out Chantix and the patients have been swearing by it. It’s supposedly been working better than anything else we’ve ever prescribed

It’s not. I quit 12 years ago. I’ve heard good things about Chantix, too. I wish it would have been around when I was quitting.

I already did it many years ago.. It’s not that easy to quit but at least I did. < *-*>

of course you can do it. i’m not smoking so i’m no having the dilemma of how to quit but my dad did. thinking about the bright side, believing in yourself and cutting it off slowly for you to adjust will help you make it!

Do tell everyone that you cut down, but not quit… LOL
It is very difficult, specially if you have been smoking for more than 10 yrs, constantly.
I guess it really depends on the will power of each person. I tried to seek professional help, patches, nicotine pills.. nothing happened. I always come back smoking after a few weeks or months. The only reason I quit is because I felt something…I got sick… I got bronchial infection and pneumonia. My lung was swelling and was really in bad shape.

This should be in your top 10.

You can only quit if you get sick… LOL J/K

Good Luck!

I have never made a new year’s resolution that I did not actually do. That is why I never made this resolution, that is, quit smoking. But since I’m now home, and you posted this question, I think I’m gonna give it a try anyway. But I’m not promising anything. Don’t anyone blame me if you see me smoking!

Never made “quit smoking” as my new year’s resolution.

I can quit anytime. It is very easy. I have quit smoking more than 20 times. See?

For me, I never liked smoking nor have I ever liked the smell of smoke.

My major 08 resolutions are to lose weight and to make sure US immigration speeds up.

i would never make a resolution that i can’t follow thru. so, smoking all the way until next year.

No. If I wanted to quit smoking, I don’t need to list it down. It doesn’t help anyway. It takes more than pen and paper to help me quit this awfully bad habit. It needs strong determination on my part, a strong conviction to kick it out of my life for good. I have tried in the past to get rid of it and it only lasted for 2 weeks then I was back again to lighting a stick – one stick a day, then 2 sticks and so on and so forth. To be honest, I don’t think it is easy and I can’t be certain I will be able to. Oh well, I’ll leave it to my fate…someday.

I have tried to quit. “the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak”

dyelai October 8, 2010 at 1:40 pm

I didn’t include it on my list but I’m planning to see a doctor for some recommendations on how to quit smoking… like in the commercial.

I never make any resolutions that I cannot adhere to, and ‘to quit smoking’ has never ever been on my agenda.
…But this year, I have indeed made one last resolution : “I shall never make a resolution in my life !”
I know I can adhere to this one ! :-) )

John W October 8, 2010 at 2:48 pm

It was in my New Year’s resolution 15 years ago. I haven’t had a smoke since. It can be done if you have a strong will-power.

Zarama October 8, 2010 at 2:53 pm

I have NEVER smoked in all my life, and do not ever intend to in the future either. Honestly ! :-)
As such, the question of my wanting “to quit smoking” does not arise at all !
